The Problem
Education was becoming a punishment instead of a hope.
In many rural schools in Mboh Nso, children were learning without textbooks. Three pupils shared one torn book. At Catholic School Ndzengwef, little kids sat on the bare floor to write because there were no tables and chairs.
On 15 May 2017, Sustaining Strategies for Humanitarian Services (SSHS) set out to change that story. As part of our Literacy & Education Program, our team arrived in Mboh Nso with a mission: to restore dignity to learning.
Project Objectives
What this project set out to do.

Dignity

Tables and chairs for kids.
At Catholic School Ndzengwef, we provided 80 new low tables and 80 chairs, specially made for nursery and lower primary children. No more sitting on cold floors. No more back pain. Now they sit, write and learn like children in the city.
The Impact
What changed for these two schools.
- 400+ pupils now have access to textbooks at GS Mboh Nso
- 80 kids now learn sitting comfortably at Catholic School Ndzengwef
- Teachers can now teach faster and more effectively
- Parents are motivated to keep their children in school
- Community pride and hope restored
On the Ground
In their own words.
We have been praying for this. Our children now have reasons to come to school every day. SSHS has wiped our tears. These books will serve this community for years.
I will now read at home. Before, I could not because the book stayed at school. Thank you SSHS.
This is not just furniture. It is dignity. Our kids now feel valued. Enrollment will increase because parents have seen what SSHS has done.
Why It Matters
A single book can change a child's future.
This is what SSHS stands for. As a US-based 501(c)(3) working in Cameroon, we believe that literacy is the first step out of poverty. This small act in Mboh Nso is a seed for a more literate, empowered generation in Bui Division.
