Who We Are

More than aid.

Sustaining Strategies for Humanitarian Services (SSHS) is a US-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by a Cameroonian diaspora family committed to giving back. We bridge resources from the US to meet pressing needs in Cameroon and across Africa.

We don't just provide aid. We build sustainable systems that allow communities to help themselves long after we leave. Our work is focused in rural and semi-urban communities where access to clean water, education and health care is still a daily struggle.

The need

  • Children drop out of school for lack of books and support
  • Women and girls walk miles for unsafe water
  • Preventable diseases spread through poor hygiene
  • Mothers lack basic prenatal care
  • Youth and women lack skills for self-employment

Mission

Our mission in Cameroon & Africa.

To restore dignity and self-reliance by providing sustainable access to literacy, clean water and sanitation, health care and economic empowerment for vulnerable families, women and children in Cameroon and Africa.

Our approach: we are different because we sustain.

  1. We Listen

All programs start with community consultation. Priorities are set by the households that will live with the result.

  2. We Partner

We work with local leaders, schools and health centers, and join forces with service clubs such as the Rotary Club of Kumbo.

  3. We Empower

We train local people to manage projects. Volunteers and staff are recruited from the community itself.

  4. We Sustain

We build systems communities can maintain. Solar, water points and savings groups outlive the funding cycle.

Questions

Frequently asked.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes. SSHS is a US-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. We issue acknowledgements for every gift.

How much of my gift reaches the field?

100% of field donations go to field projects. Administration and fundraising are carried by the founding family and dedicated supporters.

How do you choose communities?

We go where the gap is widest and the local structures are willing: a health centre, a school or a village council that will co-own the project and maintain it afterwards.

Can my organisation partner with SSHS?

Yes. Our Mbah and Dom project was delivered with the Rotary Club of Kumbo. We welcome service clubs, churches, diaspora associations and institutional funders.

How do you report on results?

Through annual reports, field photographs and project updates sent to donors and partners, plus handover records signed with the receiving health centre or school.

Sustainable change costs less than you think.

A mama kit, a mosquito net, a solar lamp in a labour room: small, practical items that keep a mother and her baby alive. Fund one, or partner with us on a whole health centre.

Always stay up-to-date.
